Design protection in Africa can be obtained with a national design right which can be value between for 1-7 years. Depending from the country It can be extended up to a final period of protection between 10 and 25 years in total. Often you will have to pay a yearly annuity to extend the protection period for another year. Beside the national design right it is possible to file instead or besides a community design which may protect your design in several countries (member states of ARIPO or OAPI).
